Course Objectives:

Public practice auditors are increasingly using financial indicators to report and explain financial conditions to local government counsels and boards.  The purpose of this course is to provide an introductory overview of financial statement ratio analysis from a variety of perspectives. 

Once you know the basics of financial indicators you may be curious to know how your local government would be rated by a Rating Agency who rely heavily on financial ratios.  This course will review all aspects of financial indicators:  internal management usage, public accounting audit reporting, the MFA and credit rating agency perspective, SORP-4 standards (sustainability, flexibility and vulnerability ratios) and statement of financial condition reporting and presentation to Council.

Participants will be provided an opportunity to conduct financial indicator analysis on their own local government financial statements in this course.

Who Should Attend:

This course is designed for local government finance officers who are responsible for monitoring, analyzing and/or preparing financial condition reports and wish to advance their knowledge in this area.
