Course Objectives:

Once you know the basics of budgeting you may want to explore advanced ideas, techniques and practices that will make you more effective.  This course will review all aspects of budgeting for local governments, from issuing budget guidelines, up to and including presenting the finished product to Council.  Participants will explore advanced ideas, techniques and practice related to the more challenging aspects of budgeting including:  budget strategies and policies; prioritization; budget for capital assets; public engagement; and presentation to Council.

This course presents some of the more challenging aspects of budgeting including:

-          budget strategies and policies;

-          guidelines and timelines;

-          prioritization process;

-          engaging the public;

-          presenting proposed budget to Council.

Who Should Attend:

This course is designed for local government finance officers who are responsible for or prepare municipal budgets and wish to advance their knowledge in this area.

Benefits of Attending:

Participants will explore the complete budget process while discussing practices that have worked well in both larger and smaller municipalities.  There will be opportunities for group discussion and sharing of experiences with other finance officers who are dealing with similar issues.
