Government Finance Officers
Association of British Columbia

GFOABC is your association, we are here to help you serve your communities to the best of your ability. However, we would be nowhere without the ongoing support of our talented membership. Indeed the GFOABC culture is based on volunteering, knowledge and information sharing. There are lots of opportunities for volunteers to get involved with various levels of expertise and a variety of time commitments that will enrich everyone and develop individual skills.

Here are some of the ways to get involved:

Helping put on programs and Workshops. (earn verifiable CPD)

We offer over a dozen workshops on an annual basis. Many are taught by volunteer instructors. We also try to have a local practitioner assist each volunteer instructor during our workshops. This volunteer will be required to get familiar with the material and spend the day with the lead instructor. They may present a portion of the material. This is a great way of practicing your presentation skills and discovering whether you would like to teach.

Helping develop programs and workshops. (earn verifiable CPD)

We also need people to serve on development committees for new programs that we are developing. They will create content, review material as it is produced and may sit in on the pilot offering of the workshop.

Serving on a Standing Committees (earn verifiable CPD)

We have four standing committees: Education, Finance and Administration, Communications, External Relations. The issues change and vary every year. We are always looking for volunteers who have an interest in these areas.

Writing articles for the GFOABC Newsletter (earn verifiable CPD)

We are always looking for local practitioners to share their knowledge or experience with the membership. If you have always wanted to have your work published, here is your chance! We at GFOABC are happy to guide you through the process.

Other Opportunities

If you have an interest in design, social media, photography, etc. we can probably use your assistance. Please feel free to make your suggestion of where you think you can help us.

The Annual Conference

Each year we form a local committee from the area where our Annual Conference is to be held. It usually consists of 6 to 12 members. Individual committee members will take on specific tasks like arranging the entertainment, preparing delegate bags, making local recommendations and volunteering during the event.
