Matthew Hartney is the General Manager of Financial Consulting Services for Public Sector Digest (PSD). In this role, regionally he oversees the Western office in Victoria and nationally he leads the corporate accounting services provided to the government & public sector (GPS). His division supports councils/boards, CFOs/Directors and their respective finance departments. Matthew provides unique professional accounting expertise to support the three pillars of public sector finance: planning, operations and reporting.
Prior to his current executive role, Matthew held the position of Director & Principal of Corvée Professional Accounting Corp. His responsibilities included leading a public practice specializing in advisory services to support finance offices with preparing long-term financial plans, annual budgets and financial plans; conducting internal reviews and addressing difficult accounting transactions; and preparing financial statements and reports.
Matthew is a CPA, CMA (member in BC and Ontario) and holds a Master in Business Administration from the Royal Military College of Canada. An expert in corporate finance and public sector accounting, for more than a decade Matthew has exclusively worked in the public sector industry. Matthew began his accounting career under tutelage of Mr. Charles-Antoine St-Jean, former Global Leader of GPS Ernst & Young and current PSAB Chair. Across Canada, Matthew has gone on to serve public sector clients as an auditor at Ernst & Young, as a Director at municipalities, and as a professional advisor. Matthew is adept at explaining financial analysis and areas for improvement in a way that is easy to understand and implement, and Matthew is dedicated to serving Canadian communities through helping his clients succeed.
