5 locations - We are committed to offering relevant professional development opportunities, so that you have the knowledge and skills you need to provide the highest level of financial expertise to your local government. As part of this, we are presenting a new workshop this fall in five locations around the province. This workshop will focus on nuts and bolts issues relating to GST, Employee benefits, Pensions and Banking. It is designed for the Finance Director, who will get an overview of the current issues in these areas, plus the supervisor who must make makes the critical decisions and the hands-on staff who work with these issues on a daily basis. Canada Revenue Agency is genously proving staff who will make presentations on GST legislation and implementation, how to apply for and interpret rulings and how to understand and apply employee benefit rules. Representatives from the Municipal Pension Plan will cover changes to the pension plan and how this will impact financially on municipal governments as well as individual plan members. Scotiabank will talk about what paperless products are now available to support finance department staff and what will be available in the future. You will meet the new executive director of the GFOA and have input into future PD needs and requirements, and last but not least, you will get to network with colleagues in your area.
